The Animals

We pride ourselves with the love of our animals and passion for camels

Bushfield Farm Camels offers a picturesque rural landscape in the Yass Valley near the village of Gundaroo NSW, not far from Canberra.
All our farm animals have individual personalities

No two humps are alike…

Our camels have personalities as unique as their footprints!

The most asked question we get is ….. “Do camels have their own personalities?”  and the answer is yes ….

But the magic of Bushfield Farm isn’t just camels. For kids who might find the camels a bit too towering, our adorable white ‘unicorn’ pony is here for pony rides that always bring smiles. Every animal on our farm adds a special touch to the Bushfield experience.

Meet them all below!

Our Working Team of Camels

Bogharty the Camel

Bogharty

Boogharty, aka Zina the Princess Warrier is the youngest of our three girls. She is our beautiful chocolate camel and is the newest addition to the camel string. She’s easily the prettiest girl on the farm, with long legs and stunning eyelashes—she could be a model!

Boogharty came from the Central Australian Desert and was bottle-fed as a baby camel at the Uluru Camel Farm, where she was named Zina. She was a big hit with tourists before moving to South Australia to live with a herd of other camels and learn how to be part of a mob.

Now, Boogharty is our big sweet girl and the tallest camel on the farm. We picked her up along with Reggie in South Australia and made the two-day journey home together. The two are now inseparable.

Aber the camel

Aber

Aber is around 13 years old and originally came from South Australia. Named after Aberdeen Angus cattle and later nicknamed Aber, he has had a lovely life with gentle handlers who shaped him into the camel he is today.

We purchased Aber from Gympie, along with Bob, Jazzy, and Flynn—all bought together as a camel team—and they love being together. Aber cherished his time spent on the beach giving rides at Noosa. These days, he enjoys bush walks and hanging out with us. He’s always up for a yarn while we’re walking and absolutely loves pats. Aber will happily sit for hours if he’s being brushed—he’s definitely a special boy!

Flynn the handsome camel

Flynn

Flynn is our no-fuss camel. He enjoys affection, but only on his terms. He likes a pat, but it’s always short and sweet—he’ll let you know when your time is up. Flynn loves to work, but without any responsibility, so he prefers being in the middle of the string. There, he holds his head high and does his job.

Nicknamed “Hollywood” for his square jawline reminiscent of Brad Pitt or Heath Ledger, Flynn is a very handsome boy—and he knows it!

All camels love the sun, but Flynn takes it to another level as a true sun-worshiper. He’s always facing the sun, holding his head high to soak up as many rays as possible.

Big Bob the camel

Big Bob

Just as his name suggests…..  he’s big and his name is BOB. Bob is one of our most experienced riding camels. He is in his early 20s and is strong as an ox. He constantly entertains us and everyone he meets. Every time you pass him he wants a kiss.

Big Bob’s highlight of the week is to be saddled up and going somewhere. He is our camel who lets us know when its smoko time, starting time, and knock off time. He loves a walk into our native regenerated block to browse native trees.

Bob’s claim to fame was that he spend a few years in Steve Irwin’s Zoo in Queensland.

Jazzy the camel sitting on the ground

Jazzy

Jazzy is the youngest in our string. He’s around 11 years old and loves to be our lead camel, he has the very important job of leading his mates on walks and reassures the team that all is good.

Jazzy is known as our pretty boy! He isn’t woolly like our other camels, he has straight camel hair and comes up a treat with a brush.

He loves to talk all the way when we are walking, some people say it’s like the sound of Jake breaks on a truck, he absolutely loves having a camel day spa with loads of brushing and is always up for camel cuddles. When all the other camels have made their way back to the paddock Jazzy is always the last to leave just to get those last pats in.

The Girls

Apples and Crackers the camels

Annie & Crackers

Little Annie is our fine faced pretty little camel,  who has come a long way from when we picked her up from the south coast, she likes to do her own thing but if there are people around she loves to come up for a pat, she loves to learn and her training days are going really well , and we can’t wait for her to join in our string of working camels.

Crackers is another young camel, under the age of ten, whom we brought home from the south coast along with Annie. Crackers is our bossy camel—always up for a wrestle in the paddock with the other camels for a play fight. She absolutely loves to run, and we think she could make an excellent racing camel!

Our Baby Camel

Reggie the baby camel

Reggie

Our beautiful little red camel, Reggie AKA Reginald, came from the Central Australian desert. We picked him up from South Australia as a youngster, and it was love at first sight. His little red coat, topknot on his head, tree-trunk legs, and the sweetest personality immediately stole our hearts. His face is priceless, with expressions that never seem to change.

Reggie loves human interaction and is always eager to please. He never wants to miss out on a trip in the trailer to an event. With his L plates firmly on, Reggie takes his place at the end of the string and has taken to routine as if he were an experienced working camel. While he won’t be carrying people on his back for many years yet, he more than makes up for it with his enthusiasm, eagerness to be part of the team, and his progress as a great little learner along the way.

The Pensioners

Camel laying his head on the ground

Trevor

Trevor is the most senior camel on our farm, currently in his early 30s. He was the first camel we ever owned—a big, gentle giant with a big heart and a lifetime of experience. Trevor originally came from Central Australia, where he worked with his mates, taking tourists out into the desert to see our most famous landmark, Uluru.

Now enjoying his retirement, Trevor truly knows how to make the most of it. His personality, along with his wonky expressions, is endlessly entertaining.

Trevor knows that when the working boys head out with passengers, it’s his cue to come to the yards. When the camel rides are finished, it’s Trevor’s time for loads of cuddles, brushing, and selfies with the guests visiting the farm. He loves a good brush and will lay his head down, fully relaxing and enjoying the experience for as long as someone is brushing him.

Queen Tess the camel

Queen Tess

Tess is the queen and the boss of the farm. We affectionately call her our little chicken nugget—she’s stocky, short, and strong, and she’s loving her retirement. We bought Tess and her good mate Wiggy from Victoria, and they’ve been inseparable ever since.

Like Trevor, Tess knows to join the yards for some pampering when the boys finish their rides. Every now and then, we invite her back into the string to carry little people, and she absolutely loves being part of the team with the big boys.

Wiggy the camel

Wiggy

Wiggy—also known as Wigstar, Wickardy, or Roger, depending on his mood—is enjoying his retirement. He loves doing his own thing but never misses out on a treat at the feed shed. While he’s quite vocal and loves to voice his opinion, it’s all just noise. Wiggy is super sweet but very much a one-person camel.

He spends his days sleeping in the sun and making the most of his retirement with endless food opportunities. If we’re walking the working camels through his paddock, Wiggy loves to join in, positioning himself at the back of the string and going solo.

Our Other Farm Animals

In addition to camels, we have plenty of other animals that call Bushfield Farm home.
Ernie the Donkey

Ernie

Ernie is our little coloured grey traditional coloured donkey.

He is our smallest of the three donkeys. He is our sweet little shy boy, who has a very gentle soul with a big heart. He’s the first to call out to us with his very loud “Eeyoreee!”.

Donkey love is like no other and you know you are loved if you have donkeys.

Benny the Donkey

Benny

Benny is our little dark chocolate donkey.

He is our little naughty boy who always seems to be into mischief, always where he shouldn’t be, like jumping a fence to be with Basil in the middle of a photo shoot and causing chaos! He is the first in line for a cuddle and pat and we wouldn’t have him any other way. Life would be pretty boring on our farm without Benny.

Our bet Basil

Basil

Basil is our coloured donkey. He is our straight-A student who loves a good photo shoot. He’s a quick learner and loves it when our visitors arrive because he knows he is going to get all those Donkey cuddles!

Ozzie the cockatoo

Ozzie

Ozzie is a white crested cockatoo and Ozzie’s story starts on a windy stormy night, the week before Australia Day. The tree Ozzie was born in fell over and he was cold, wet and sitting in the middle of the road when we came across him. We rescued Ozzie and hand-reared him. We called him Ozzie being that we found him so close to Australia day. Ozzie is quite a character and has a very large dictionary of words that he can say. He loves to get a scratch on the head and loves the attention of all our visitors. He loves to show off doing, as we call it, “some tricks”. He hangs upside down and swinging whilst throwing in a few dance moves.

Jack Russel Terrier named Miss Molly

Miss Molly

Miss Molly is our beautiful little Jack Russell who is 13 years old.

She’s seen many animals come and go. Like Larry being on the Buggy is her Favorite thing to do. She hangs out on the buggy all day being a side kick for all the jobs to be done. She also loves camel time and especially when children come to visit our farm. She greets every car that arrives with her little happy face and wagging tail as she knows she going to get loads of pats and cuddles whilst they are visiting.

Larry the dog

Larry

Larry the Boxer is our larrikin farm dog or should I say spoilt farm dog.

He is the baby of the farm and has just turned one. His favourite time of the day is camel time. He loves to sit on the golf buggy and wait for the time of day when we are at the camel yards. He knows the rules and he’s to stay with the buggy at all times. He loves the camels and would so love to play chase with them. But when a camel plays, we call it a happy dance because there are feet, legs and lips going in all directions! They are so big and you never know which direction the camels will go, so best that Larry stays safe on the buggy with his little mate the Jack Russell Miss Molly.

Pet pig named PIG

Pig

Pig came to us as a very little piglet, and yes, his name is ‘PIG’. He now is a very large pig. He loves the look of a bucket because he knows he will be getting some food scraps and pellets

He’s been a part of our family for a while now. He is a free-range pig and roams the farm with all the other animals. He is always up for a scratch behind his huge ears, so his favourite time is when we bring him into the yards to meet our guests.

Sunny the pony

Sunny

Sunny is our little white Welsh Mountain Pony, whom we bred ourselves. We call him our little unicorn pony—he loves to please and is every little girl’s dream. Sunny enjoys being brushed and having his mane and tail colored in rainbow hues.

He’s a fantastic lead pony and absolutely loves being the center of attention. Sunny also has three little mates—the miniature donkeys—who love following him around. Together, they’re like a little gang on the farm.

Bushfield Farm Animals

Other Farm Animals

We always have a collection of hand-reared baby farm animals, mostly lambs and goats who all love to get hugs from our guests. Other farm animals you will see grazing in our paddocks are sheep, cattle, and horses. You never know what else could make its home at Bushfield Farm.
